Penfolds Negrosé

Psst! I’ve just discovered the most amazing little summer cocktail created by Penfolds. It’s called a negrosé because it’s a delightful mash-up between a negroni and a rosé. I can’t wait for you to try it and fall in love with it like I have.

You can find this cocktail, as well as others, on the Penfolds website, but for quick reference, here it is below, too. Enjoy!

What is Penfolds’ Max’s Rosé?

A new wine in the Penfolds’ Max’s range, it is made from pinot noir grapes in the Adelaide Hills. “This wine is a contemporary, dry, very aromatic rosé,” says Jamie Sach, Penfolds global ambassador. “And it makes a fantastic cocktail.”

Ingredients

  • Freeze-dried blood orange powder, to garnish (see notes)

  • 4 tbs (80ml) Penfolds Max’s Rosé

  • 1 1/2 tbs (30ml) good-quality tonic water

  • 1 tbs (20ml) sloe gin

  • 1/2 tbs (10ml) sugar syrup

  • 1/2 tbs (10ml) Adelaide Distilling Company Ruby Bitter Aperitif

  • 1/2 tbs (10ml) Okar Amaro

  • Ice cubes, to chill

  • Ice cubes, to serve

Method

  • Coat the rim of a rocks glass with freeze-dried blood orange powder (see notes).
  • Stir rosé, tonic water, gin, sugar syrup, Ruby Bitter aperitif and Amaro in a medium jug with plenty of ice until chilled (see notes).
  • Fill a rocks glass to the very top with ice and then strain the chilled drink mixture over the top. Serve.

Notes

  • It’s important that you only stir the ingredients with the ice until chilled. You don’t want the ice to melt and dilute the cocktail.
  • If you like, you can substitute the Amaro or Ruby Bitter Aperitif with Campari or any other bitter amaro/aperitif.
  • You can buy freeze-dried blood orange powder at specialty grocers online. You could always substitute it for a slice of dried blood orange. Simply add it to the glass before serving.
